The CJ-7 was introduced in 1976 as a replacement for the long wheelbase CJ-6. It sold alongside the shorter wheelbase CJ-5 and was definitely aimed at the up and coming recreational vehicle market.
The Jeep CJ-7 with its 93.5 in. wheelbase allowing room for the newly developed automatic transmission the first Jeep to have that. Along with this was an optional 4-wheel drive QuadraTrac system making driving so much easier than the previous manual shifts transmissions.
